In case you haven’t noticed, the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare (originally a pejorative title that I wouldn’t use, but now apparently acceptable enough to be printed proudly on official t-shirts, buttons and bumper stickers for the Obama campaign), is back in the news in a big way. This week, Obamacare is being challenged as unconstitutional before the Supreme Court. This is undoubtedly one of the most important cases to come before the Court, as it has major implications for both the policy itself and for the politics surrounding healthcare and the first term of President Obama more broadly. As such, I think this may be a good time to have a recap of what Obamacare actually entails and what the big legal fight is all about. First, let’s have a brief overview of the policy itself.
